THE BEGINNING: PRESSURES FOR CHANGE Racism is not a new topic of sociological discussion, yet it clearly remains to be a considerable issue across the globe. Most recently the â€Å"Black Lives Matter† movement has provoked several extremist members and sympathizers to commit acts of terror in order to make their beliefs heard. The shootings in Texas and Louisiana are but a few examples of why racism continues to be a social problem that deserves attention and immediate action. Although, nations like the United States have shown tremendous progression over time, cultural changes have spanned over decades. From the time our Independence to the present racism has been a problematic social factor. Leaders such as James Maddison, George Mason, Thaddeus Stevens, William Lloyd Garrison, Abby Kelley, Booker T. Washington, Sigmund Livingston, and Martin Luther King Jr. all share the common epitaph of being civil rights organizers and patriarchs. History has recorded their contri butions to combating racism, consequently providing a base line model to overcoming this social dilemma. In more modern times, I have learned of a consortium named the â€Å"Crossroads Antiracism Organization.† Founded by Rev. Joseph Barndt and Rev.
