An Evaluation of the Work of Jan Svankmajer :: essays research papers
An Evaluation of the Work of Jan Svankmajer Jan Svankmajer is an illustrator like no other that I am aware of. Surrealist in style, his imaginative work includes a wide scope of mediums-film, form, painting, visual computerization, writing and verse. His filmic work frequently includes a blend of movement, puppetry and no frills a moving style for any movie producer to utilize viably. Svankmajer films are by trademark dull and grim stories, told not for tasteful or strategy, yet consistently to fill an individual need, which I will discuss in a matter of seconds. In this article, I will manage the work that Svankmajer made as an illustrator. To place it in setting, in any case, I will initially give a harsh review of his experience and the work for which he is most popular. Svankmajer was conceived in Czechoslovakia in 1934. His folks were both aesthetically slanted; his dad was a window dresser while his mom was a dressmaker. In the wake of reading manikin theater for a long time in Prague, Svankmajer started his vocation as an executive, architect and puppeteer at the State Puppet Theater in Liberec. During the Early 1960s he worked together with a few diverse performance center organizations in Prague to arrange an assortment of plays. In 1964 his inclinations went to filmmaking. In this medium he felt that more would be conceivable in fact, and that his work would contact a more extensive crowd. In the wake of making different honor winning short movies like The Last Trick, his work experienced an unequivocal change from Mannerism to Surrealism in 1968. As a surrealist Svankmajer would make numerous exceptionally acclaimed films including movement and no frills. Svankmajerââ¬â¢s work got encompassed by political contention with the creation of the film Antonioââ¬â¢s Diary (1972). The film was not proposed to have political importance, yet the Czech specialists prohibited him from making films for a long time essentially on the grounds that it contained unapproved film delineating ordinary Czech life. Measurements of Dialog (1982) turned into his most popular short, and won a few global honors. Like Antonioââ¬â¢s Diary, in any case, it was prohibited in Czechoslovakia, and was additionally appeared to the philosophy commission of the Central Committee of the Czechoslovak Communist Party for instance of the sort of film that ought not be made. Alice (1985-87), in light of the book by Lewis Carol, was Svankmajerââ¬â¢s first element film, and his first to contact an American crowd. From that point forward he has made two more full length films: Faust (1993) and Conspirators of Pleasure (1996).

ââ¬ÅI just want to be Averageââ¬Â by Mike Rose Essay
The article by Mike Rose made me truly consider the reason for training schools bring to the table us. He discusses how an essential test can decide as long as you can remember; it made me truly consider how exact these tests truly are. The reason for this paper appeared to be the means by which he feels understudies disappointments isnââ¬â¢t as a result of us, this is a direct result of the educational system by and large. He shares how the professional track is fundamentally depicted as understudies who are not persuaded to learn. The inquiry he makes us consider is, the reason are these understudies so unmotivated to learn? He states how generally the instructors are the ones who are not inspired enough to educate them. Essentially the educators must be there in light of the fact that itââ¬â¢s their activity, and from the snapshot of the studentââ¬â¢s first grade the instructors consequently feel that theyââ¬â¢re UN workable. Understudies accept whatever the educator s ays so they begin accepting that their inept thus they wont attempt. Later on in the book, Rose discussions about Jack MacFarland. He descries him as an exceptional individual, in light of the fact that despite the fact that heââ¬â¢s an instructor he puts work to cause understudies to comprehend that all educators are not the equivalent. 1. Rosesââ¬â¢ life in Voc.Ed was a bad dream. R he instructors would essentially converse with him like heââ¬â¢s impeded. Rosesââ¬â¢ instructors were so unmotivated to educate him. They fundamentally abandoned everybody who was in voc. Ed since the very first moment. 2. Voc. Ed. Fundamentally made everybody not have any desire to master anything. It influenced them in a cruel way in light of the fact that the understudies began to accept that they were never going to be anybody throughout everyday life so they simply quit attempting all together. Math was a subject that Rose would never go to a full comprehension of it since, it was his teachersââ¬â¢ reluctance to ensure he ceaselessly took in this apti tude. 3. Understudies, who regularly observe themselves in a negative way, see a negative effect on their tutoring. Ken Harvey didnââ¬â¢t fundamentally figure he ought to being the Voc. Ed. pathway. He took it out on himself for being directed to that pathway. By the day's end, he knew he couldnââ¬â¢t transform it, and different peopleââ¬â¢s suppositions didnââ¬â¢t matter to him, He needed to understand that in a study hall like his everybody had their own feelings that frequently didn't coordinate any semblance of his. Understudies frequently let the assessment of others cut them down and influence them in their scholastics, however on the off chance that you set your focus on it by the day's end no ones conclusions truly matters acknowledge your own. 4. Jack offers rose the assistance and bolster that rosesââ¬â¢ educators would not give him. I think anybody with Rosesââ¬â¢ intelligenceâ can succeed on the off chance that they set their attention to it. Roses paper makes me consider the truth of this world. How the mix-up of the school locale can affect your life in an entire diverse manner. How understudies who are set in ââ¬Å"slowâ⬠classes, essentially get no assistance at all since instructors accept their UN wo rkable. Donââ¬â¢t individuals understand that aggravates a childââ¬â¢s life even?

Feminism A Long Time Goal For The Feminism Movement
Equality has been a long-time goal for the feminism movement. Over the last 100 years did feminism equality advanced so much within the united states. Women have gained many rights that men have and perhaps more. Has feminism accomplished all their goals that there is no need for feminist in the united states? Many women believe that there is no need for feminist anymore. Throughout history women had little to no rights then men. In ancient Egypt women were equal to their husbands but within their society they had distinct roles that men and women each had. War was a stepping stone for feminist on gaining womenââ¬â¢s suffrage. At the beginning of the civil war Elizabeth Cady Stanton decided to postpone their agenda during the war and concentrate their energy on other activities to gain more recognition (Frost, Cullen 136). They decided to help in the civil war as nurses, soldiers, and other jobs which women before that time wouldnââ¬â¢t have worked. During WWI and WWII, it was not uncommon to see women work in areas that were considered a manââ¬â¢s job. In fact, it was encouraged through a slogan and women were making one-third of the work force (ââ¬Å"The American Experience In World War IIâ⬠279). It received both positive and negative feedback from women. Some women found it liberating from gender segregation. On the other hand, women who were not used to working or getting dirty disliked it. William Shakespeares Twelfth Night as a Feminist Play Essay
William Shakespeares Twelfth Night as a Feminist Play The play Twelfth Night was written in the Elizabethan days, near the end of the ruling of Queen Elizabeth I. It was also during The Renaissance, which is also the rebirth of learning, which this play was born. It was a period of change, questioning and vitality. People no longer believed everything they were told, but tried to find things out for themselves. As to whether Twelfth Night is a feminist play, would have several differing points to show against or for it. As it was the ââ¬Ëperiod of changeââ¬â¢, this play could have been written to change peopleââ¬â¢s ideas of females and males in general. Since the olden days, women have always been viewedâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦In Twelfth Night, the protagonist of the story, Viola, is displayed as a rational, sacrificial, sincere, strong, witty woman, who disguises herself as a man, to become a faithful attendant of Orsino. Viola is one with sacrificial and patient love, willingly loving Orsino, and attending to his every need. Orsino, on the other hand, is shown as an emotional man, who has superficial and transient love for Olivia. This love is very abruptly shifted to Viola at the end of the play, when Viola reveals her true identity. Through this contrast of these two individuals, we can see that Shakespeare makes a distinct different between genders, and allows to draw a contrast between characters to think deeper into their characters and purpose in the story, beyond their surface appearances. From the difference in character and personality between Viola and Orsino, we can see that Viola is displayed as a rational, witty, yet manipulative woman, who loves deeply and sincerely. This is shown from, ââ¬Å"If I did love you in my masterââ¬â¢s flame/With such a suffââ¬â¢ring/such a deadly lifeâ⬠, as it implies that Violaââ¬â¢s love towards Orsino, is true, and has depth, and other-centred. The Universal Baseball Association Essays - Dukes Of Normandy
The Universal Baseball Association The disappearance of Henry in the final chapter adds a certain ambiguity to Coover's text. Readers must question why Henry is not present and the reasoning behind his disappearance from the final chapter; has he merged to become one person with the players he created, have his players and league progressed to a maturity in which they no longer need him, or has Henry crossed the line of insanity causing the league itself to turn into a chaotic mess. The possibility exists that Henry has merged to become one with his players. Many characters Henry created appear to reflect some of his desires and needs that he is unable to fulfill in his outside life. For example, we can see him in the character of Paul Trench who embodies many of the mutual traits between Henry and Sycamore Flynn during the previous chapters (Agelius 171). We sense Henry's presence. . .through Paul in the structure of the final chapter (Angelius 172). Henry's thoughts and feelings now portrayed through Paul Trench, who plays Damon Rutherford in the remaking of the tragic death. Henry, having merged to become one with his players, has lost touch with reality completely. No clues exist that the Association is not the real world: The imaginative recreation of sport as play has become the world. There is not the slightest sign here of any other reality; even the existence of a creator external to the play-world may now only be inferred (Berman 219). Henry crosses the line to insanity he has flirted with for so long, merging with the players in his novel, and leaves no indication that a world outside the game exists. However, the possibility does exist that Henry has not merged with his players, but rather the game has taken on a life of its own. Some would argue that Henry, the creator of the Association, has not merged with his players, but rather they have progressed to a maturity where they have a life of their own, with the God-like presence Henry offers no longer necessary. This notion suggests that the creation of a game and of the people would eventually take on a life of their own: Perhaps Coover wishes to suggest that the autonomy of the creative fantasy, how once the artist creates, the child of his imagination takes on its own identity and serves others in totally new terms (Gordon 45-46). When Henry first created the league his presence was needed in order to make it work, yet as time passed the characters grew a history, had children and made a life for themselves. By the time the league reach the year CLVII, Henry's child, the Association and its characters, no longer needed him to provide their identities. The league, created by Henry over a hundred years before, has evolved to a life of its own; the players, managers and spectators can think for themselves and have taken control of their own destiny as opposed to Henry and his dice controlling it. The possibility remains that Henry neither merged with his players nor left it to its own identity; his insanity drove him over the edge and the league into a chaotic mess. Henry flirted along the line of insanity throughout the first seven chapters of the novel. His perception of reality and make-believe becoming increasingly distorted. When reintroduced a hundred years later, things in the league seem a great deal less organized than when Henry left off. Hardy, the player who taking over Damon's role explains how the players can't be sure of the events that are unfolding; they cannot be sure whether the history they know to be true actually holds true, if [Damon] Rutherford and [Jock] Casey [ever] existed (Coover 224). The players cannot be sure whether their history really existed or if it stems from legend and myth. The presence of this uncertainty causes confusion and chaos among the players; why must they participate in The Parable of the Dual and what will happen to them? Henry's progressively increasing level of insanity has caused him to completely bow out in the final chapter; the disappearance of his role has caused mass confusion among the p layers and chaos ensued. 5 Great Tips for Business Writing - Proofeds Writing Tips
5 Great Tips for Business Writing - Proofeds Writing Tips 5 Great Tips for Business Writing Business writing includes everything from dry internal reports to snazzy website copy. But while different situations call for different writing styles, we have a few tips that apply to any type of business writing. Check them out below to find out how they could benefit your company! 1. Tailor Writing to an Audience As mentioned above, business writing is a broad category. This means you should always write for a specific audience. So whether it is a technical report for those in the know or a light-hearted press release for the public, think about who you are writing for and adapt the tone and language to suit. 2. Beware Buzzwords and Jargon Business buzzwords and jargon are not necessarily bad. Sometimes you need to use technical language to communicate something complicated. But take care not to go too far! Packing your writing with jargon will make it difficult to read, especially if you arenââ¬â¢t writing for a specialist audience. And buzzwords can be alienating. It is far better to keep things simple by using everyday language wherever possible. And if you need to use jargon, explain exactly what it means when you introduce the term. 3. Help Your Reader Find Key Details Life is busy. And sometimes that means you donââ¬â¢t have time to read the small print. If you want to make sure your readers donââ¬â¢t miss important information, then, you have to make it easy for them. If you are writing for an internal audience, you may want to include an executive summary. This lets you summarize key details in an easy-to-read fashion, while giving full information in the rest of the document. If writing for a wider audience, use formatting (e.g., bold or italics) and headings to help your readers find the most important information even while skim reading. 4. Keep It Short Write concisely wherever possible. After all, if time is money in the business world, you canââ¬â¢t assume everyone will read the entire 283-page report you sent. So keep it short where you can. If you are writing a longer document, though, always give the main points first. This will ensure that even busy readers see what you need them to. 5. Always Proofread! This is quite possibly the most important tip of all. And weââ¬â¢re not just saying that because we offer an outstanding business proofreading service. Whether or not you choose to work with us (you should), checking your business writing for errors is essential all of the time. Errors in business writing will give a bad impression to customers, clients, and colleagues alike. They can even cost a lot of money if youââ¬â¢re unlucky! And this makes proofreading worth the effort.

Ligeia's Unusual Beauty Not only does Ligeias unusual beauty represent a reoccurring theme throughout the story, but the text portrays Poes method of rejecting the ordinary, a common theme in past literature, while still promoting the ideas of Romanticism. One example of this is how Poe repeatedly points out how flaws in the classical appearance of Rowena, the fair-haired, the blue-eyed, by comparing her to Ligeia whose features were not of that regular mould which we have been falsely taught to worship in the classical labors of the heathen. Poe explains through the narrator how more exalted and meaningful Ligeias beauty is specifically because she exhibits more natural features instead of the classical features. Poe clearly rejects classical beauty by killing off Rowena and having Ligeia, the heroine and the personification of Romantic beauty, live on through Rowenas body. The narrator describes his beautiful spouse almost like a ghost: She came and departed as a shadow. He also thinks her beauty, more specifically her eyes, as a strange mystery. Her eyes make her seem unreal or superhuman because of her large expressive eyes that the narrator cannot explain except that they are far larger than the ordinary eyes of our own race. The rejection of the classical values and the welcoming of the supernatural through unusual, mysterious beauty indicates Poes bias towards Romantic themes particularly since the narrator describes her eyes and voice further as which at once so delighted and appalled meby the almost magical melody, modulation, distinctness, and placidity of her low voice. In this statement, Ligeia almost frightens the narrator because of her grotesque and supernatural qualities. He cannot explain what he sees, but in Romanticism, many times the writers threw out the rational and replaced it with the irregular and unexplained. When Did We Meet? Another contradiction of the narrators relationship with Ligeia is how he cannot explain how he knows her, or when and where they met. I cannot, for my soul, remember how, when, or even precisely where, I first became acquainted with the lady Ligeia. Why is it that Ligeia has taken away his recollection? Consider how unusual this episode is since most people can remember the smallest details of meeting their true love. It seems that she almost has control over him. Then, her love for him demonstrates more Romantic themes of the supernatural since she returns from the dead through Rowena. Often, Romanticist literature tried to disconnect itself with past literary styles by adding a theme of unusual remoteness concerning time and space. For example, Ligeias identity has no clear beginning or end. This fact clearly demonstrates another example of this excessive, irregular, and unexplained style of writing commonly found in Romanticist literature. We never know how the narrator meets Ligeia, where she was after she dies, or how she is capable of resurrecting herself through another woman. All of this is in strict defiance of Restoration literature and a rejection of 18th-century writers philosophies. By challenging what 18th-century writers labeled as appropriate themes, Poe writes Ligeia to promote his belief in Romanticist theories and ideas. His originality, specifically the use of the supernatural, is a consistent example of the innovation projected throughout Romantic literature.

Management (definition) - Essay Example The perspectives hence interpolate the events in the organization for instance rules and regulations, trade unions, conflicts differently, (Dale 2001). The unitary organization is viewed as being harmonious and integrated whole unit just like a united family. The management and the rest of the staff members all shares a common goal and they lay a lot of emphasize on cooperation that is mutual. This perspective approaches the organization paternally where it requires all the employees to be loyal. 1. This perspective approaches the organization as a one harmonious and integrated entity. This makes the employees feel wanted by the organization. They hence develop a lot of commitment, derive job satisfaction from what they do and this in the long run increases the organizational productivity. The organization life is mutual and people are friendly towards each other, (Mark 2001). 2. The organization is guided by a common objective. This is very advantageous as all the members of the organization including the management and staff cohesively works towards the attainment of a common goal which is unanimously agreed upon by the two parties as a whole. There is therefore the spirit of togetherness in the every day life of the organization. 1. ... The trade union serves as a representative of the employees to the employer and assists the employees in making trade agreements, in collective bargaining and negotiations. In a unitary organization therefore, the employees are not represented and their voice is not raised. They remain loyal to the organization and cooperate with the management, (Hoyer 2001). 2. Organizational conflicts are perceived to be disruptive to the normal running of the organization. They are associated and are said to result to the breakdown in communication, friction between individuals, and agitation. By shielding the organization from healthy conflicts, this perspective bars the organization from realizing the benefits of a healthy conflict. Healthy conflicts keep the employees and the management as well informed on the general feeling of the organizational issues. The conflicts also bring home the various points of views from the different people in the organization. 3. The organization only recruits employees who do not demonstrate a pluralistic character. This blacklists potential employees from working in the organization. In regard to this, the organization may leave out the best talent. This may affect the firm's productivity as well as the life of the organization. The pluralist perspective From this perspective, the organization is viewed as having divergent and powerful sub-groups of which each group has its individual loyalties that are legitimate, set objectives as well as its own leaders. These sub-groups primarily are the employees and the management, (Thomson and Rampton 2003). Advantages The responsibilities or the management lessens since all the management does is co-ordinate the employees in the organization as well as the organizational life. The burden

Law and ethics - Research Paper Example Additionally, the contract clause called binding effect ensures that both parties have sufficient knowledge or skill concerning the consequences of their actions (Chen-Wishart, 2012). On the other hand, labor law should focus on the rules and regulations that define minimum wage and collective action. Accordingly, provision of warranty is vital because it allows an aggrieved party to claim losses suffered or monetary damages. Overall, the defining rules should equally have collateral contracts besides the main contract to assist in case the other fails. It is crucial to comprehend the contents of a contract in relation to the clauses and limitations that are often defined by civil or penalty law. A penalty law is imposed in case a party contravenes the contents that bear a huge significance in the contract. Consequently, a penalty could assume a monetary payment or forfeiture of certain resources that are clearly spelt out in the employment contract. Alternatively, adducing supporting evidence is fundamental in cancelling a contract or invoking the civil law to receiving fine for restitution (Poole, 2012). Similarly, under the labor laws, both parties must thoroughly acknowledge the limitations of the contract. Construction of the contract must obey the relative terms that are spelt out by employment contract or labor laws. Feminism: A Constant Stride Towards Equality Essay -- Gender Studies
ââ¬Å"Women are the only oppressed group in our society that lives in intimate association with their oppressors.â⬠-Evelyn Cunningham Feminism is an idea based on the assumption that women have the same human, political and social rights as men, furthermore, that women should have the same opportunities as men in their personal choices regarding careers, politics and expression (Reference.com). A feminist text states the authorââ¬â¢s agenda for women in society as they relate to oppression by a patriarchal power structure and the subsequent formation of social ââ¬Ëstandardsââ¬â¢ and ââ¬Ëprotocolsââ¬â¢. It points out deficiencies in society regarding equal opportunity, and the author will make certain the reader will be aware of this motive (Bahar). In a work of fiction, the main character, or heroine, personifies the social struggle against male domination. Unfortunately, feminism is said to have too many negative connotations and thus it seems the term, and therefore the movement, is restricted by the glass ceiling, of which it aims to fight (Ferguson). Numerous works which we explored throughout t he semester possess characteristics of feminist works, in particular, the short story ââ¬Å"The Yellow Wallpaperâ⬠, written by Charlotte Perkins Gilman and ââ¬Å"A Good Man is Hard to Findâ⬠, written by Flannery Oââ¬â¢Connor. The feministic ideas that are touched upon help to strengthen the works as well as critique modern society. ââ¬Å"The Yellow Wallpaperâ⬠tells a story about a womanââ¬â¢s struggles against male-centric thinking and societal ââ¬Ënormsââ¬â¢. The Education Of The Classroom - 931 Words
Before any changes are made, a common understanding amongst all teachers, whether they have been teaching for thirty years or are fresh in the field, must be established. As an instructor you must be willing to adapt to the role, which best suits your curriculum and students needs, as well as, always be one step ahead of your children. It is also important for administrative persons as well as the boards of education, to understand that if success is what we want for our children and we believe individual success can be reached through the ability to freely explore many pathways, we must also make these conveniences available to our teachers. Teachers need freedom to convey freedom and the option to explore different pathways in the classroom, to meet the needs of every individual. A unique idea was proposed by Ted Kolderie, who was associated with the Humphrey Institute for Public Affairs at the University of Minnesota Center for Policy studies. He stated, ââ¬Å"what if you didnâ⠬â¢t have employees? What if you owned the enterprise as a professional practice, much like a law firm or medical practice?â⬠(153) This suggestion challenged the idea of teaching in itself, by presenting the assumption that teaching while under restrictions, is not actually teaching. It related teaching to a practice, such as a law firm or a medical position, which require constant change of execution and procedure depending on the case at hand.
